MoniGran is an anticoccidial agent containing 20% monenzine in the form
of sodium salt. It is indicated for the prevention of coccidiosis in calves.
An ionophoric antibiotic, it has a wide spectrum of coccidiostatic
action. It is active against all coccidia species, including Eimeria necatrix, Eimeria
tenella, Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria brunetti, Eimeria maxima, Eimeria mivati, Eimeria mitis,
Eimeria rgaesoh.
The mechanism of action is a violation of the transfer of sodium and potassium cations in
the oocyst, which leads to the death of coccidia. In calves, monensin is rapidly absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract,
it is actively metabolized in the liver. It is excreted mainly with bile.
